Rwanda Ruli Mountain

Region: Kivu Lake

Altitude: 2000

Process: Washed

Varietal: Bourbon

Notes: Grapefruit, apricot, honeydew, green apple, cola

Used in: Sabertooth Blend, Single Origin Espresso

Ruli Mountain coffee comes from 2500 coffee farmers who live in several small communities tucked into the hills that surround the Ruli washing station. Run by ‘Gloriose’, this station is the first in Rwanda to have a female manager. Profits built the local Kiryamo school and farm on the hill above, and continue to go towards funding them. Eggs and milk from the farm are divided equally amongst families in the region and sheep wool sold internationally, strongly boosting the local economy. Since “Land of a Thousand Hills” started working in the area and investing in agronomy education, farmers are able to earn nearly double the price compared to previous years.
